WESTWARD HO!

Westward Ho! beach, when the tide goes out is about two miles long by half a mile wide. It faces West with the prevailing wind being South West. This gives you plenty of room with a good chance of a perfect wind.

Westward Ho! is one of the prime kite flying beaches in the UK. When the tide is in, there is no beach, Northam Burrows is massive, this is also perfect for kite flying.

New to kite flying or want to get started? For the little ones a good quality single line kite is a perfect starting place as they fly almost on their own. Don't buy really cheap kites, they just don't fly therefore your new found love for kites is short lived plus they just end up in landfill! You want to be spending around the £10 mark, these kites last too. Find a nice open area with no obstructions, the beach or Northam Burrows is perfect for this. Any obstructions will affect wind quality and can stop kites flying correctly. For a single line kites a perfect day will be 10-15mph, a nice gentle breeze. In these conditions parents become kite heros and kids love it.

Got the single kites mastered? Now open the doors of the two line kites, stunt kites, sport kites, and small power kites. Two line kites give you a lot more control, you have to fly them or they will crash! You can learn tricks with them.

Now there is a whole new world to explore! Four line kites have pin point control, can pull you across the beach or tow you over the water, they can lift you or fly a camera, you can do kite Ballet or trick flying. Once you have mastered kite control there are so many different aspects to kiting, you will never get bored.

With the massive open space we have here, it's a perfect place to learn, fly and progress.
